| June | 28°C | 18°C | 22°C | 5–7 |

Month by Month: What to Expect
April – "Opening Season"
Weather: unstable, sunny days mixed with rain Sea: cold (12–14°C), good for walks but not swimming Crowds: almost none — the riviera is just waking up Ideal for: visiting inland towns and villages, everything at low prices
May – "The Secret Month"
Weather: generally fine, pleasant temperatures (20–23°C), not yet hot Sea: warming up (16–18°C), some days you can swim Crowds: low — only the most forward-thinking visitors Ideal for: active tourism, cycling, hiking, beach without queues
May is the best month for anyone who wants Romagna with good weather but without the summer crowds. Hotel and beach prices are 30–50% lower than in July.
June – "Pre-Season"
Weather: warm and sunny, temperatures rising (25–28°C during the day) Sea: already pleasant (20–22°C), swimming with no problems Crowds: growing steadily, peak at late-June weekends Ideal for: families with school-age children (right after school ends)
Note: the Molo Street Parade and the Notte Rosa (late June/early July) bring the first big wave of tourists.
July – "Full High Season"
Weather: hot, often humid (30–33°C), high humidity on some days Sea: warm (24–25°C), perfect for swimming Crowds: maximum — the riviera is packed Ideal for: those who love entertainment, nightlife and a buzzing beach scene
Avoid July if: you want peace and quiet, affordable prices or easy parking.
August – "Ferragosto and Peak"
Weather: the hottest month (30–32°C), risk of evening thunderstorms Sea: at its warmest (25–26°C) Crowds: absolute peak around Ferragosto (10–16 August) Ideal for: those who love the nightlife, the Notte Rosa, and live events
Tip: the third and fourth weeks of August are already noticeably less crowded than the first two.
September – "The Best Month"
Weather: fine, ideal temperatures (24–26°C), humidity dropping Sea: still warm (23–24°C), excellent for swimming Crowds: rapidly declining after Ferragosto — by late September the riviera is almost deserted Ideal for: couples, adults, anyone who wants the sea without the chaos
September is unanimously considered the best month by the majority of locals and experienced seasonal workers. Less heat, fewer crowds, same sea.
October – "Autumn by the Sea"
Weather: variable, beautiful days mixed with rain Sea: still swimmable (20–21°C) in the first weeks Crowds: almost none Ideal for: slow tourism, inland villages, Romagnolo cuisine, minimum prices
The Wind Factor
Winds are crucial for understanding Romagna's weather:
| Wind | Direction | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Bora | North-East | Cools the air, makes the sky crystal clear, creates waves on the Adriatic |
| Maestrale | North-West | Dries out humidity, fresh breeze |
| Scirocco | South-East | Brings African heat and humidity, rough sea |
| Libeccio | South-West | Clouds and rain, rough sea |
Sunshine Hours in Romagna
Rimini is one of the sunniest cities in Italy:
| Month | Average sunshine hours per day |
|---|---|
| June | 9.5h |
| July | 10h |
| August | 9h |
| September | 7h |
| May | 8h |
The July–August Humidity Problem
In July and August the combination of heat and Adriatic humidity creates the characteristic Romagnolo mugginess. In the hottest week of the year, the perceived temperature can exceed 40°C.
How to handle it:
- Beach in the morning (8:00–12:00) or late afternoon (17:00–20:00)
- Lunch indoors or in the shade during the hottest hours
- Light clothing in natural fibres (linen, cotton)
- Stay continuously hydrated
When to Book
| Holiday period | When to book | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| July–August | 3–6 months in advance | Essential for hotels and beach clubs |
| June | 1–2 months in advance | Good availability still |
| May / September | 2–3 weeks in advance | Last-minute bookings also possible |
