The Sagra della Vongola Verace in Goro is the most delicious festival in the Po Delta: every summer, across three weekends in July, the small port of Goro in the Ferrara province celebrates its finest product with a feast of flavours, music, and tradition. Goro is Italy's leading municipality for the production of vongole veraci (carpet-shell clams): the waters of the Sacca di Goro — a brackish lagoon where the Po meets the Adriatic — give the clams a unique, inimitable taste. At the festival you can sample dozens of recipes: clams alla marinara, with spaghetti, alla busara, oven-grilled, in fish soup. Evenings are enlivened with live music and entertainment. A special attraction is free boat trips into the Sacca di Goro to discover the clam farms firsthand.
