Medieval fortress, university city and year-round work

Romagna
Cesena does not need the sea to be lively. Perched on the hill of the Malatesta Fortress, it looks out over the Po plain and the Apennines with the calm of a city that knows it sits at the centre of things. The university draws students from across Italy, the job market is active year-round — not just in summer — and the historic centre is home to one of Europe's oldest libraries. Those seeking stable work in Romagna often end up here: logistics, agri-food, manufacturing and services weave a net that holds even through the cold months.

Biblioteca Malatestiana
The first civic library in Europe, built between 1447 and 1452. It holds over 340,000 volumes and an intact 15th-century wing — benches, lecterns and manuscript codices — recognised by UNESCO in 2005 as a Memory of the World.
A 14th-century medieval fortress that dominates the city from atop the hill. Inside it houses the Archaeological Museum and temporary exhibitions. The climb offers one of the finest panoramas over the Romagna plain and the Apennines.
The heart of Cesena's social life: an arcaded square where the Palazzo del Ridotto, the Masini fountain and historic cafés tell centuries of history. Every week it hosts the market, and in summer it becomes a stage for concerts and events.
Cesena's largest urban park: over 30 hectares of equipped green space with cycling paths, sports fields, a small lake and picnic areas. Historically home to trotting races, today it is the heart of Cesena's sport and leisure life. Every Sunday morning it hosts an organic market.
Cesena is reachable by car from the A14 motorway (Cesena or Cesena Nord exits). By train on the Bologna–Rimini line (high-speed and regional), with the main station 5 minutes from the Cathedral. From the Riviera by car: ~20 min from Cesenatico, ~30 min from Rimini, ~35 min from Ravenna.
Parking
Main car park under the Rocca (paid, ~250 spaces). Free parking on Viale Mazzoni and in residential areas beyond the Savio river. The centre has a partial ZTL (restricted traffic zone): check hours before entering. Private garages available on Via Chiaramonti.
Cesena is active year-round thanks to the university. Spring and autumn for cultural life and markets. Summer for those seeking seasonal work on the nearby Riviera (Cesenatico, Cervia). Christmas transforms the historic centre with markets and lights.
